The table below presents admissions information for the eight Ivy League schoolsfor the class of 2019. The numbers are quite similar to those for the class of 2018. Brown, Columbia, Dartmouth, Havard, Penn, and Princeton all saw a slight decrease in their acceptance rates. Cornell and Yale each saw their acceptance rates go up slightly.
These numbers can be rather daunting and sobering for students with Ivy League dreams.

The reality is that these schools are among the country's most selective colleges, and that all of the Ivies send out far more rejection letters than acceptance letters.
What can you do to increase your chances of getting into an Ivy League school?
- Work hard throughout high school and take the most challenging classes available to you. A strong academic record is an absolutely essential piece of a successful application. Success in Advanced Placement, Honors, IB, and Dual Enrollment classes all help demonstrate your readiness for a rigorous Ivy League education.
- Make sure you get good SAT scores or good ACT scores.
- Apply early! The acceptance rate is far higher for Early Decision and Early Actionstudents than it is for the regular applicant pool. At Harvard, for example, just 2.8% of regular applicants were admitted compared to 16.5% of early action applicants.
- Make sure every piece of your application shines: meaningful extracurricular activities, glowing letters of recommendation, a winning essay, and a strong interview.
- Avoid common blunders on your application, avoid bad essay topics, and be sure you don't torpedo your chances with bad Facebook photos or other social media faux pas.

A Final Word of Advice: Even if you view the GPA-SAT-ACT graphs above and find that your grades and test scores are on target for an Ivy League school, have a back-up plan. You should always consider these eight universities to be reach schools, not match schools, even if you have strong credentials for admission.
Plenty of students get rejected with stellar grades, extracurricular involvement, and SAT scores.
